It is sun-dappled, and I thought the arrangement of leaves, and flowers resembled an altar at the time, though the photo doesn’t capture it. On top of this are five images arranged as if a compass. It’s a 5 card spread, each image representing five directions or gates. At the center is a screenshot of a text document, many of the words redacted, but some of my favorites once legible include “the ladder i built may have been janky but it was the way” and “discreet little universes (redacted) leave one room and open into the next.” That is essence self, the gate of transparency. To the left of that image is the west, gate 1, self love, an image of a shiny faced Kia wrapped in bright pink fuzzy material, sitting on grass, with the moon almost full and very bright behind her. She looks directly at the camera, sad, or sleepy, maybe both. To the far right is the east, the gate of self-reflection, a photo of an old honey jar sitting on a kitchen counter in front of a window. In the jar is simmering hibiscus and plum tea. You can see the layers of the liquid, as it moves from the rich yellow honey at the bottom to the bright red tea at the top. At the top of the five card spread, the north, is the gate of self-embodiment: a still of a video of a black ant dragging a dead brown spider along the edge of a black metal outdoor table. At the bottom, the south, the gate of empowerment, is a screengrab image of a oracle card from a human design app. It reads “51-the arousing” and features a photo image of a bright streak of white lighting against a rich red sky.
